There may only be 2 games remaining in the ECSHL regular season schedule, but the standings are far from decided. Heading into the final weekend of the regular season the only position not up for grabs is first place. The St. John’s Caps (32 points) have secured first with a 14 point lead on the second place Southern Shore Breakers (18 points) who are followed by the Northeast Eagles (16 points) and Conception Bay Blues (15 points). The CWSHL have deducted 4 points from the Grand Falls Cataracts after it was discovered that the team used an ineligible player for two games during the weekend of January 13 and 14th. It has been determined that a player that was not on a HNL card appeared on the game sheet from Saturday Jan 13th and Sunday Jan 14th. Since the player was not on a card he was deemed ineligible. League rules say that a team using an ineligible player will forfeit any points acquired in those games. Grand Falls won both contests and accumulated the 4 points.

On Wednesday January 17 the East Coast Senior Hockey League completed its third and final draft for this season, 9 players were eligible for selection.
Selecting first overall was the Conception Bay Blues who selected Owen Guibert, a 6'6 defenseman from St. Pierre who has most recently been playing hockey in France. Following that the Northeast Eagles selected Corey Drake, a forward who has spent parts of the last few seasons with the Conception Bay Blues. [Full Story]
The final weekend of interlocking play for this season is on tap for this weekend. On Saturday January 20th the Pugliesvich Southern Shore Breakers travel to Clarenville to play the Caribous at 7:30 PM. In the second half of the series the CBS Blues travel to Clarenville to play the Caribous on Sunday January 21st at 2:00 PM.
